Wells, Delos LamontThe Waynesboro Police Department has charged a Charlottesville man with drug distribution after a SWAT raid Wednesday night.

Officers arrested Delos (“DEE-LOHS”) Lamont Wells, 37 years old, on a single felony count of Possession of a Schedule I or II Drug with the Intent to Distribute, 2nd Offense, after he fled on foot when the SWAT Team arrived at his girlfriend’s residence at 129 South Bath Avenue.

At 9:30 PM on April 29, members of the Department’s Special Operations Division and SWAT Team, armed with a search warrant, raided the home.  Wells, who was outside when the raid started, scaled a six foot privacy fence and fled on foot but was quickly taken into custody by Patrol Officers who were assisting with the operation.  In addition to Wells and his girlfriend, there were four children in the house aged 8 to 17.  No one was injured.

Police found a misdemeanor amount of marijuana, synthetic marijuana (“spice”) and evidence of crack cocaine being manufactured in the kitchen of the residence. Wells had over $800 in cash, cocaine paraphernalia and 5 baggies of synthetic marijuana (“spice’) on his person upon his arrest.

Additional charges are likely.  Wells is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail without bond.  Wells was convicted in Waynesboro Circuit Court in 2009 of Distribution of Cocaine and received a 10 year prison sentence with seven years suspended.
