Update: Friday, 8:58 p.m. Due to flooding impacts on a water pump station, residents of Waynesboro are urged to conserve water until further notice.
There is no need to boil water at this time.
Update: Friday, 8:07 p.m. The Waynesboro Police Department is reporting that Meadowbrook Road is closed until further notice due to river flooding.
In addition to Meadowbrook Road, there are a number of side street closures, roadway hazards, and power outages affecting traffic lights.
Update: Friday, 7:35 p.m. The National Water Projection Service is now projecting the South River in Waynesboro to reach 12.5 feet at 8 p.m. Friday.
We’re now past minor, well into moderate, and on the verge of what is considered major flooding, which is at 13 feet.
Update: Friday, 6:49 p.m. This just in from the National Water Projection Service – the South River in Waynesboro was at 11.72 feet at 6:15 p.m. Friday, more than two feet above flood stage.
Update: Friday, 6:41 p.m. The National Water Prediction Service is now projecting that the South River in Waynesboro will crest at 11.51 feet at 8:15 p.m. Friday.
The river is in what is considered minor flood stage in Waynesboro at 9.50 feet.
The latest update from NWPS has the river above the 9.50-foot mark through the 7 a.m. hour on Saturday morning.
Update: Friday, 4:03 p.m. A new update from the National Water Prediction Service is now forecasting minor flooding along the South River in Waynesboro.
The latest update is now forecasting the river to crest at 9.80 feet at 2 a.m. Saturday.
The river is in what is considered minor flood stage in Waynesboro at 9.50 feet.
First report: Friday, 12:48 p.m. City officials are making sandbags available as it appears that the South River in Waynesboro will be near floodstage in the early-morning hours on Saturday.
The latest updated rainfall forecast for Waynesboro from AccuWeather has the city in line to get an additional 2.66 inches of rain today and into tonight, which could put residents in low-lying areas and businesses in the downtown district in the danger zone.
The National Water Prediction Service model has the South River, at the gauge near the intersection of Lyndhurst Road and Meadowbrook Road, in the vicinity of the Waynesboro Country Club, cresting at 9.0 feet at 2 a.m. Saturday.
The river is considered to be at minor flood stage at that location at 9.5 feet.
Sandbags are available for pickup at a Self-Serve Sandbag Station located at the city’s Operations Center at 900 Essex Ave.
The Operations Center is set to close at 3:30 p.m., but the Self-Serve area will remain open to the public.
