Update: Thursday, Nov. 5, 11:07 a.m. The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office continues to seek the public’s assistance with locating Karen Sue Koogler.
On Tuesday, the sheriff’s office, with the assistance of the sheriff’s offices in Nelson County and Buckingham County, and the Virginia State Police, conducted a waterborne search of the James River near the Route 56 boat ramp on the James River in Wingina.
This search met with negative results.
On Wednesday, in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the sheriff’s offices in Nelson County and Buckingham County, a search was conducted across a wide area near Wingina. Thirteen members of the ACSO traveled to Nelson County and conducted a daylong search for Koogler and her 2012 Subaru Outback, Virginia Tag: KNK-6076.
Koogler remains missing, and the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office is requesting that anyone with information on this case contact Investigator Reid at (540) 245-5333
Update: Friday, Oct. 30, 6:18 p.m. The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office continues to seek the public’s assistance with locating a missing, endangered, Augusta County woman, Karen Koogler.
Through further investigation it has been determined that the last known contact with Koogler was at approximately 3 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, in Fishersville. It was also discovered that her phone was last used on Friday, Oct. 23, at approximately 4 a.m. near the Buckingham/Nelson county line.
It was reported that Koogler had been at the McDonald’s in Dillwyn on Monday, Oct. 26.
Investigators are seeking to identify and contact the individual who reportedly bought breakfast for Koogler at the Dillwyn McDonald’s.
Investigators have been in contact with the Koogler family, and with authorities in Buckingham County. Today, investigators scoured the area of Fish Pond Road in Nelson County, her last known location.
Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith has also requested the assistance of the Virginia State Police aviation unit to survey the surrounding area where the phone was last used.

First report: Friday, Oct. 23, 4:21 p.m. The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance with locating a missing Staunton woman who was last seen at her home on Wednesday.
Karen Sue Koogler, 56, may be operating a grey 2012 Subaru Outback with Virginia registration KNK-6076.
Koogler reportedly has a serious medical condition that requires she take medication. She is considered endangered.
