Dance/Walk Waynesboro set for Saturday

Dance Walk 2014Those who enjoy a good time and want to welcome spring back are encouraged to join other like-minded individuals at the second annual Dance/Walk Waynesboro at 11 a.m. this Saturday, May 2.

Starting at the downtown pedestrian walkway at the fountain (on Main Street between P. Buckley Moss Gallery and Blackjacks Barbecue), dance/walkers will gather at the walkway and then once again make their way up and down Main Street dance/walking to the sound of Pharrell’s “Happy.”

Kim Cash, 2015 Dance/Walk organizer says, “Dance Walking is fun and happy! It’s a great way to meet new friends and discover the many ‘jewels’ in Downtown Waynesboro. Come on out and help us celebrate our awesome downtown and the many unique shopping and dining experiences.”

Approximately 50 individuals, including children and dogs, turned out for the first Dance/Walk in 2014 and organizers said they were besieged with requests to repeat the event on a weekend so more people, including school-age children could participate.

In addition to enjoying the health benefits of even a ten minute walk (dance/walking more than qualifies), organizers point to the great support given the group by local merchants and restaurants, many of whom are offering discounts and dance/walk dining specials.

Others, like Stitch Amour on Wayne Avenue, have scheduled specials for the day. Shop owner Mariah Clark is hosting a “Yarn Tasting” from 11-2, “Come sample our exquisite yarns! We will have 15 of our yarns available to sample and all sampled yarns will be 10% off!” says Clark.  Down Main Street at Twice as Nice, Dixie McClenahan is having a drawing for a $25 gift certificate.

There is no charge to participate in the annual dance/walk.  “Just put on your best smile, walking or tennis shoes, bring along a great attitude and you are all set to dance/walk.  Come join us,” echoes last year’s event chair Kathy Johnson.
