Culpeper District Traffic Alert: VDOT work schedule for Aug. 26-30

VDOT has updated its scheduled work in the Culpeper District during the next week.

Traffic movements may be restricted, and speed limits may be reduced in work zones.

(NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

Albemarle County 

(NEW) Pavement marking repairs – Expect mobile, alternating lane closures, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. in the following areas:

  • U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail), between Route 743 (Hydraulic Road) and the Greene County line in the northbound and southbound lanes, Monday through Wednesday.
  • U.S. 29 (Monacan Trail), between the Albemarle County line and the Nelson County line in the northbound and southbound lanes, Tuesday through Friday.
  • U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike), between Route 48 (Skyline Drive) and the U.S. 250 (29 Bypass) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Wednesday Friday.

(UPDATE) Bridge painting – Expect alternating lane closures with flaggers in the following areas:

  • Interstate 64, between mile marker 128 and mile marker and mile marker 131 in the eastbound and westbound lanes, 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24 to 6 a.m. Monday.
  • Interstate 64, between mile marker 129 and mile marker 132 in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Monday through Friday, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

(UPDATE) Soil borings – Expect mobile, alternating lane closures, Tuesday through Friday in the following areas:

  • Route 20 (Scottsville Road), mobile, alternating lane closures between Route 1135 (Willow Lake Drive) and Debenham Court in the northbound and southbound lanes, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway), at Route 20 (Scottsville Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(UPDATE) Utility work under VDOT permit – Expect lane and shoulder closures in the following areas:

  • U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike), alternating lane closures between Route 240 (Crozet Avenue) and Route 797 (Hillsboro Lane) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Route 240 (Three Notch’d Road), alternating lane closures between Route 240 (Crozet Avenue) and U.S. 250 (Ivy Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Route 240 (Crozet Avenue), alternating lane closures between Route 691 (Jarmans Gap Road) and Route 240 (Three Notch’d Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Route 751 (Brownsville Road), both shoulders closed between Route 240 (Crozet Avenue) and U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Route 797 (Hillsboro Lane), right shoulder closures between U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) and Route 684 (Half Mile Branch Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

(NEW) Interstate 64 – Tree trimming. Expect mobile work zone with right shoulder closures between mile marker 99 and mile marker 125 in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Interstate 64 – Ditch cleaning. Expect right shoulder closures between mile marker 100 and mile marker 107 in the westbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) U.S. 29 (Monacan Trail) – Pipe repairs/installation. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 697 (Sutherland Road) and  Route 633 (Heards Mountain Road) in the southbound and northbound lanes, Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail) – Signal installation. Expect left lane and left shoulder closures at Route 866 (Greenbrier Drive) in the northbound and southbound lanes, 9 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday.

U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail) – Roadway improvements. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 3416 (Angus Road) and Seminole Court in the northbound and southbound lanes, nightly, Monday through Thursday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., 10 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday, 9 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday, 8 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.

Route 20 (Scottsville Road) – Paving. Expect mobile, alternating lane closures between Route 6 (Irish Road) and Route 708 (Red Hill Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, nightly.

Route 20 (Scottsville Road) – Bridge superstructure repairs/replacement. Expect temporary traffic signal with a traffic pattern shift at Route 708 (Red Hill Road). Route 708 is narrowed to one lane for construction on the bridge over the North Fork Hardware River. Please expect delays during high volume times of the day. Project completion date, Dec. 4, 2024.

Route 641 (Frays Mill Road) – Other bridge work. Road closed at Route 743 (Advance Mills Road) for replacement of bridge over Marsh Run. Drivers on U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail) who need to access Route 743 north and west of the closure should use Route 607 (Cedar Grove Road). Expected completion date, Dec. 5, 2024.

(NEW) Route 649 (Airport Road) – Survey work. Expect alternating lane closures between U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail) and Route 1501 (Deerwood Drive) in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 797 (Hillsboro Lane) – Rehabilitation project. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 684 (Half Mile Branch Road) and U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 1403 (Berkmar Drive) — Turn-lane construction. Expect right lane and right shoulder closures between Route 1438 (Hilton Heights Road) and Route 1417 (Woodbrook Drive) in the southbound lanes, daily, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

City of Charlottesville

Roadway improvements – Expect alternating lane closures Monday through Thursday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., 10 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday, 9 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday, 8 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday in the following areas:

  • U.S. 250 (Bypass), between Route 3412 (Dairy Road) and the ramp to U.S. 29 (Emmet Street) in the northbound and southbound lanes.
  • Route 743 (Hydraulic Road), between Route 3431 (Brandywine Drive) and U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail) in the eastbound and westbound lanes.

Culpeper County

(NEW) Utility work under VDOT permit – Expect lane and shoulder closures in the following areas:

  • U.S. 522 (Germanna Highway), left lane and left shoulder closure between Route 720 (Rabbit Run) and U.S. 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) in the northbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • U.S. 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway), alternating lane closures between Route 686 (Mount Pony Road) and U.S. 522 (Germanna Highway) the northbound and southbound lanes, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • U.S. 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway), alternating lane closures between Route 652 (Cedar Grove Road) and Route 617 (Racoon Ford Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, beginning Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • U.S. 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway), alternating lane closures between Route 686 (Lovers Lane) and Route 652 (Cedar Grove Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, beginning Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • U.S. 522 (Germanna Highway), alternating lane closures between U.S. 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) and U.S. 15 (James Madison Highway) in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Route 667 (Nalles Mill Road), alternating lane closures between Route 699 (Keyser Road) and the Culpeper Town line in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Route 646 (Old Stillhouse Road) – Road widening. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 635 (Hazeland Lane) and Route 628 (Weslyn Drive) in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Route 688 (Countryside Lane) – Rural Rustic repairs. Expect alternating lane closures with flaggers between Route 647 (Batna Road) and Rapidan Farms Drive dead end in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fauquier County

Roadway improvements – Expect lane and shoulder closures, Sunday through Friday in the following areas:

  • U.S. 17 Business (Broadview Avenue), alternating lane closures between Hospital Drive and Winchester Street in the northbound and southbound lanes, Sunday through Friday.
  • Gold Cup Road, closed between U.S. 17 Business (Broadview Avenue) and Rappahannock Street. Follow signed detour around the project: Route 1209 (Rappahannock Street) to U.S. 211 (Frost Avenue) to U.S. 17 Business (Broadview Avenue), 8 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Friday.

(UPDATE) Utility work under VDOT permit – Expect lane and shoulder closures in the following areas:

  • Interstate 66, mobile, alternating lane closures between mile marker 14 and mile marker 37 in the eastbound lanes, Sunday through Saturday, 6 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • U.S. 211 Business (Waterloo Street), right lane and right shoulder closures between U.S. 17 Business (Broadview Avenue) and Sullivan Street in the westbound lanes, Sunday through Friday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Route 55 (John Marshall Highway), mobile, alternating lane closures between Route 731 (Cobbler Mountain Road) and Route 729 (Carrington Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Sunday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Route 55 (John Marshall Highway), mobile, alternating lane closures at Route 724 (Pleasant Vale Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Route 660 (Saint Paul’s Road), alternating lane closures between Route 661 (Botha Road) and Route 658 (Cemetery Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, Tuesday and Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Route 661 (Botha Road), alternating lane closures between Route 786 (O’Keefe Road) and Route 660 (Saint Paul’s Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Tuesday and Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Route 690 (Bear Wallow Road), alternating lane closures between Route 628 (Cannonball Gate Road) and the Warrenton town line, daily through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Route 1175 (Millfield Drive), alternating lane closures between Route 678 (Academy Hill Road) and the Route 1175 cul-de-sac in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Route 1208 (Church Street), road closed between U.S. 211 (Broadview Avenue) and Sullivan Street, Monday through Wednesday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Please follow detour Route 886 (Waterloo Road) to Sullivan Street.

Interstate 66 – Mowing. Expect mobile, alternating lane closures between mile marker 14 and mile marker 37 in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(NEW) Interstate 66 – Shoulder repairs. Expect mobile, alternating lane closures between mile marker 17 and mile marker 34 in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

(UPDATE) Interstate 66 – Bridge deck repairs. Expect lane closures at the exit to Route 245 (Old Tavern Road) and between mile marker 32 and mile marker 34 in the westbound lanes. Please use caution through the work zone and expect delays. Use alternate routes if possible. Daily and nightly through Thursday, 9 p.m. to 1 p.m.

(NEW) U.S. 17 (Marsh Road) – Tree removals. Expect right lane and right shoulder closures between Route 853 (Station Drive) and Route 805 (Bealeton Road) in the northbound lanes, Wednesday and Thursday.

(UPDATE) U.S. 17 (Winchester Road) – Paving. Expect alternating lane closures between Interstate 66 and Route 777 (Old Zion Road) in the northbound lanes, 7 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Route 822 (Distillery Road) – Bridge superstructure repairs/replacement. Road closed between Route 822 cul-de-sac and Route 55 (John Marshall Highway). A temporary road and bridge are in place. Expected completion date is Dec. 2, 2024.

Route 1437 (Suncrest Drive) – Pipe repairs/installation. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 839 (Porch Road) and Route 1437 cul-de-sac in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Greene County

(NEW) U.S. 33 (Stanardsville Bypass) – Utility work under VDOT permit. Expect mobile, alternating lane closures between Route 623 (Swift Run Road) and Route 609 (Fredericksburg Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Tuesday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 621 (South River Road) – Pipe repairs/ installation. Road closed between 3003 Route 637 (Octonia Road)  and 3165 Octonia Road, Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Louisa County

Construction of a new roundabout – Expect alternating lane closures daily, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the following areas. Project anticipated completion date, Jan. 31, 2025.

  • U.S. 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) between Route 623 (Chopping Road) 0.3 miles north of Route 208 (New Bridge Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes.
  • Route 208 (New Bridge Road) between U.S. 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) and Alma Gaynelle Drive in the eastbound and westbound lanes.

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Paving. Expect alternating lane closures between mile marker 131 and mile marker 146 in the westbound lanes, nightly, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

(UPDATE) U.S. 15 (James Madison Highway) – Tree trimming. Expect mobile, alternating lane closures between Spring Creek Parkway and the Gordonsville Town line in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 643 (Cuckoo Road) – Utility work under VDOT permit. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 605 (Shannon Hill Road) and U.S. 522 (Cross County Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 647 (Harts Mill Road) – Bridge inspection. Expect alternating lane closures between route 640 (Old Mountain Road) and U.S 522 (Cross County Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Madison County

(UPDATE) U.S. 29 (South Seminole Trail) – New roadway construction. Expect lane and shoulder closures between Route 662 (Shelby Road) and Route 677 (Estes Lane) in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Route 231 (South F T Valley Road) – Paving. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 643 (Etlan Road) and the Rappahannock County line in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(NEW) Route 663 (Willis Road) – Pipe repairs/installation. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 230 (Woftown-Hood Road) and Route 662 (Shelby Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Orange County

(NEW) Soil borings – Expect alternating lane closures, daily, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the following areas:

  • Route 231 (West Gordon Avenue), between Route 1003 (Wright Street) and U.S. 15 (North Main Street) in the northbound and southbound lanes.
  • Route 1006 (South High Street), between Route 1007 (Mayhugh Avenue) and Route 231 (West Gordon Avenue) in the northbound and southbound lanes.

Rappahannock County

Route 231 (FT Valley Road) – Paving. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 618 (Hawlin Road) to the Madison County line in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
