Culpeper District Traffic Alert: VDOT road work, maintenance schedule for Aug. 13-17

VDOT has updated its schedule for road work and maintenance in the Culpeper District during the next week.

Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones.

Albemarle County 

(NEW) Roadway improvements – Expect alternating lane closures in the following areas:

• U.S. 29 (Emmet Street), between Route 1425 (Angus Road) and Seminole Court in the northbound and southbound lanes, Monday through Thursday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., 10 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday, 9 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday, 8 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.
• Route 240 (Crozet Avenue), between U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) and Route 751 (Brownsville Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(NEW) Bridge inspection work – Expect alternating lane closures in the following areas:

Turn lane construction – Expect lane and shoulder closures in the following areas, daily:

• Route 20 (Scottsville Road), right shoulder closures between Route 742 (Avon Street Extended) and Route 1801 (Forrest Road) in the southbound lanes, daily, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Route 1403 (Berkmar Drive), right lane and right shoulder closures between Route 1438 (Hilton Heights Road) and Route 1417 (Woodbrook Drive) in the southbound lanes, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bridge superstructure repairs/replacement – Expect lane and shoulder closures in the following areas.

• Route 20 (Scottsville Road), Temporary traffic signal with a traffic pattern shift at Route 708 (Red Hill Road). Route 708 is narrowed to one lane for construction on the bridge over the North Fork Hardware River in the southbound lanes. Please expect delays during high volume times of the day. Project completion date, Dec. 4, 2024.
• Route 810 (Boonesville Road), Road closed at Route 628 (Simmons Gap Road) for rehabilitation of bridge over the Lynch River. Follow signed detour around the work area. Project completion date, August 20, 2024.

(UPDATE) Utility work under VDOT permit – Expect lane and shoulder closures in the following areas:

• U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike), alternating lane closures between Route 240 (Crozet Avenue) and Route 797 (Hillsboro Lane) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
• U.S. 250 (Bypass), alternating lane closures between Route 601 (Old Ivy Road) and Leonard Sandridge Road in the eastbound and westbound lanes, 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

(NEW) U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail – Road widening. Expect right lane and right shoulder closures between Zan Road and Seminole Court in the northbound lanes, Monday through Friday, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 641 (Frays Mill Road) – Other bridge work. Road closed at Route 743 (Advance Mills Road) for replacement of bridge over Marsh Run. Drivers on U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail) who need to access Route 743 north and west of the closure should use Route 607 (Cedar Grove Road). Expected completion date, Dec. 5, 2024.

Route 797 (Hillsboro Lane) – Rehabilitation project. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 684 (Half Mile Branch Road) and U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

City of Charlottesville

(NEW) Roadway improvements – Expect alternating lane closures Monday through Thursday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., 10 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday, 9 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday, 8 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday in the following areas:

Please use caution through the work zone and expect delays. Use alternate routes if possible. Daily and nightly through Thursday, 9 p.m. to 1 p.m.

(NEW) U.S. 17 (Marsh Road) – Pavement marking repairs. Expect mobile, alternating lane closures in the northbound and southbound lanes between Route 687 (Opal Road) and the Stafford County line, Monday through Wednesday, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

(UPDATE) U.S. 17 (Winchester Road) — Paving. Expect alternating lane closures between Interstate 66 and Route 777 (Old Zion Road) in the northbound lanes, Sunday through Friday, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

(NEW) Route 822 (Distillery Road) – Bridge superstructure repairs/replacement. Road closed between Route 822 cul-de-sac and Route 55 (John Marshall Highway). A temporary road and bridge are in place. Expected completion date is Dec. 2, 2024.

Route 1437 (Suncrest Drive) – Pipe repairs/installation. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 839 (Porch Road) and Route 1437 cul-de-sac in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fluvanna County

(NEW) Pavement marking repairs – Expect mobile, alternating lane closures, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the following areas:

• U.S. 15 (James Madison Highway), between the Buckingham County line and Route 613 (Bybees Church Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, Monday through Wednesday.
• Route 6 (West River Road), between the Albemarle County line and the Goochland County line in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Wednesday through Friday.

Louisa County

Construction of a new roundabout – Expect alternating lane closures daily, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the following areas. Project anticipated completion date, Jan. 31, 2025.

• U.S. 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) between Route 623 (Chopping Road) 0.3 miles north of Route 208 (New Bridge Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes.
• Route 208 (New Bridge Road) between U.S. 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) and Alma Gaynelle Drive in the eastbound and westbound lanes.

(NEW) Pavement marking repairs – Expect mobile work zone with alternating lane closures, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the following areas:

• U.S. 250 (3 Notch Road), between Route 616 (Black Cat Road) and the Fluvanna County line in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Tuesday through Friday.

Route 609 (Buckner Road) – Pipe repairs/installation. Road closed between Route 655 (Bethany Church Road) and Route 648 (Jouett School Road). Please follow detour route around the work area. Local traffic will have access. Expected completion date is Sept. 5.

Madison County

(NEW) Utility work under VDOT permit – Expect lane and shoulder closures in the following areas:

• U.S. 29 (South Seminole Trail), alternating lane closures between Route 621 (Seville Road) and Route 609 (Fredericksburg Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, nightly, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

(UPDATE) Route 231 (West Gordon Avenue) – Soil borings. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 1025 (Wright Street) and Route 1021 (Faulconer Street) in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Route 678 (Governor Barbour Street) – Bridge repair. Road closed between Route 777 (Vineyard Road) and Route 738 (Old Barboursville Road). Please find alternate route around the work area. Expected completion date, August 30.

Rappahannock County

U.S. 211 (Lee Highway) – Mowing. Expect mobile, alternating lane closures between Business U.S. 211 (Warren Avenue) and Route 229 (Rixeyville Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
