Crozet Dog Park to mark grand opening on Dec. 12

newspaperAfter two years of planning and fundraising, the new Crozet Dog Park will officially open its gates on Saturday, December 12th following a brief dedication ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m.

The 1.5-acre site includes two fenced-in areas: one for small dogs (25 lbs. or less) and a main enclosure suitable for all dogs with appropriate temperament.

The Crozet Dog Park will be open from dawn to dusk every day of the year.

The project, which spanned just over two years from inception to launch, has involved numerous people and organizations including Albemarle County Parks & Recreation (ACP&R) which provided the property for the project. The dog park site is ideally situated with hardwood trees, water, and several established trails for easy access from many surrounding neighborhoods.

The County-owned dog park site adjoins the community-owned Claudius Crozet Park property, with access via Crozet Park. The Crozet Dog Park is one of only several in Albemarle County.

The Crozet Dog Park received much needed support from the Starr Hill Red Light Fund of the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation (CACF) in the form of a $10,000 challenge grant.

According to Kim Guenther, President of the Crozet Park Board of Directors, “this grant allowed us to meet all the remaining budgetary requirements to complete the project. Without this support, we would have continued fundraising well into 2016.” The $10,000 challenge grant and the resulting media coverage also triggered in-kind services and product donations from several Crozet-based businesses including Fardowners Restaurant, Yancey Mills Lumber, and DoodyCalls .

The public and the media are invited to attend the grand opening at Claudius Crozet Park.
