While popping corks for a celebration is a regular occurrence at CrossKeys Vineyards, today they’re celebrating with the best Rosé on the Atlantic seaboard.
The Rockingham County-based winery’s 2017 Fiore Rosé recently earned CrossKeys’ first Best of Show Award at the Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association’s 14th annual wine competition in Tysons Corner, Virginia.
“Over the years, we’ve brought home a lot of gold and double gold medals, but this is the big one we have been waiting for,” said Babak Bakhtiar, CrossKeys’ director of marketing. “This has been a great year for our wines at awards competitions and this Best of Show is proof that Head Winemaker Stephan Heyns and Assistant Winemaker Steve Monson are undoubtably crafting the finest wines in Virginia.”
CrossKeys Vineyards’s 2017 Fiore won the coveted top award out of 483 total entries scored at the Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association competition. The winery also picked up two silver medals for its 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2016 Joy White.
This has been a very good year for CrossKeys Vineyards as the winery has racked up 17 awards and medals so far in 2018. Earlier this month, CrossKeys picked up six medals at the 2018 Global Wine Awards in Las Vegas.
In February, CrossKeys’ 2015 Ali d’Oro won a gold medal in the prestigious 2018 Governor’s Cup competition in Virginia. The 2015 Ali d’Oro was also chosen for spot in the coveted Governor’s Case, which is made up of the top 12 Virginia wines selected from more than 400 entries.
Since planting its first vines in April 2001, CrossKeys Vineyards has produced more than 165 vintages, which have earned 95 awards at wine competitions around the country. Today, CrossKeys Vineyards has 12 varietals growing on 32 of its 125 acres. The winery produces 10,000 cases of 100 percent estate-grown wine per year.
