County to hold public input sessions for community wildfire protection plan

AFP

Augusta County Fire and Rescue is seeking public input during the development of a Community Wildfire Protection Plan.

This plan identifies wildfire risks facing woodland areas in the County and includes information about wildfire response, hazard mitigation, community preparedness, and structural protection.  The goals of the plan are to promote wildfire awareness and safety education, and to identify and reduce hazardous fuels to protect life, property, and natural resources.

The public is invited to attend one of two Public Input Open Houses on March 19th (3- 4:30 p.m. or 5:30-7 p.m.) at the Board Room at the Augusta County Government Center to share their thoughts on areas in the County that may be vulnerable to wildfires and to help prioritize mitigation strategies to reduce wildfire risk.

Displays will be set-up by various local, state, and federal organizations that deal with wildlands and wildfires.  Light refreshments will be served.

Augusta County residents unable to attend one of the Open Houses may complete an online survey at www.surveymonkey.com/s/wildfiresurvey.
