Community Sing-out to celebrate harmony, diversity on Aug. 12

aug. 12The events of Aug. 12, 2017 do not define the city of Charlottesville. That is why on Aug. 12 of this year, the organizers of the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir are holding a community sing-out where everyone is invited to participate in a positive musical celebration of our city.

The C’ville Sing Out! will be held at 4:00PM on Aug. 12 at the IX Art Park. No musical experience necessary, all are invited and welcome to sing and enjoy the harmonies of our hometown intercultural celebration.

“This is the first event of its kind in Charlottesville,” says co-organizer Nico Scopelliti. “By bringing everyone in our community together to sing, we will take back the date Aug. 12 and show the world what our wonderful city is truly all about: harmony, diversity, and brotherhood among all races and religions.”

Over 80 people have already registered to sing, with an anticipated turnout of 300+ singers who will meet the day of the event to learn and practice three songs and then march together to IX Art Park for the main event.

“The best way to respond to hate is with love,” says co-organizer Elly Tucker, “and on Aug. 12 this year, our voices will fill the air with a message of love, hope, and gratitude for our beautiful city.”
