Colonial Heights Police have obtained criminal charges against 18 employees at the Colonial Heights Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in connection with an ongoing elder abuse investigation.

Police have made arrests of the 196-bed center’s director, Shawanda Jeter, 46, of Richmond, and Danielle Harris, 53, of Disputanta, who were each charged with one felony count of abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults.

Jeter and Harris are being held without bond at Riverside Regional Jail in Prince George County.

The investigation dates to an Oct. 5 report from the Virginia Department of Adult Protective Services involving a discharged patient who later died.

Investigators from the Office of Attorney General Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, Colonial Heights Police Department and the Virginia Department of Health opened an investigation into the death.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are seeking more information from the community.
