Chesterfield County: Suspect arrested in fatal hit-and-run crash on Interstate 95

Virginia State Police have arrested an Emporia man in a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred early Saturday morning on Interstate 95 in Chesterfield County.

Virginia State Police arrested Dangelo D. Layton, 26, and charged him with hit and run and reckless driving on Sunday.

The fatal crash killed Anthony Lee Crawford Jr., 27, of Chesterfield County, and injured a woman, Asti Naimah Lacy, 31, of Henrico County.

According to VSP, the investigation found that Lacy and Crawford were stopped in the right late of travel for an unknown reason and were standing outside their vehicles at approximately 2:24 a.m. when they were struck by a third vehicle near exit 61B.

Lacy was injured and transported by ambulance to VCU Medical Center where she is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Crawford was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A manhunt was under way for the suspect in the hit and run as police searched for a vehicle that had damage to the passenger side and headlight. Police believed the suspect vehicle was a white Volkswagen, possibly an SUV.

The investigation remains ongoing.
