A Chesapeake woman is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Orange County on Sunday.

Isabelle S. Matthies, 22, a passenger in the crash, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to UVA Medical Center where she later died.

Virginia State Police report the accident occurred at 8:38 a.m. on Route 20 (Constitution Highway) just north of Route 639 (Jacksontown Road).

A 2013 Mazda CX9, driven by Abigail L. Matthies, 22, was traveling north on Route 20 when the driver failed to maneuver a curve, ran off the right side of the road and collided with a tree.

The driver of the Mazda was not injured. Both women were wearing seatbelts.

Abigail Matthies was charged with reckless driving.

VSP would not confirm the relationship between Isabelle Matthies and Abigail Matthies. However, online records seem to link the two 22-year-old women as sisters.

The crash remains under investigation.
