Charlottesville Area Transit service changes to occur on Sept. 12

charlottesville area transit2On Sept. 12, Charlottesville Area Transit will implement a new service schedule. Route 3, Route 7, and Route 10 will see several changes.

Route 3 will depart from Belmont Park five minutes earlier.  The change increases the amount of time the route has to travel from Belmont Park to the Downtown Transit Station.  Increasing the time will allow passengers a smoother transfer to other routes at the station.

Route 7 will use Marshalls in Seminole Square Shopping Center as a new time point.  The adjustment will help distribute layover time at Fashion Square Mall.

The route will also see minor modifications to departure times between 7:15 PM and 9:10 PM.  The changes correct an issue where passengers previously experienced abnormally long wait times as service switched from day service to night services.

Lastly, Route 7 will discontinue the 11:10 PM departure from the Downtown Transit Station.  The change was made to streamline the schedule.  Based upon ridership numbers, the last run which traveled from the Downtown Transit Station to the UVA hospital before ending carried on average one passenger per night.  More than half of the trips sampled carried no passengers.

Route 10 will shift its routing alignment to serve the Food Lion in the Pantops Shopping Center first.  After serving the Food Lion, the route will serve the Rivanna Ridge Shopping Plaza, Martha Jefferson Hospital, Veterans Administration, Social Security Office, and Avemore Apartments before returning downtown.

The change in the Route 10’s alignment will also bring changes to the departure times for many of the bus stops.

Digital copies of the new Rider’s Guides which contain route maps and schedules are currently available online at www.CatchTheCAT.org. Hard copies will appear at the Downtown Transit Station and on buses beginning September 9th.
