Chamber welcomes new board members

The Harrisonburg Rockingham Chamber of Commerce has appointed a new Chairman of the Board and three members to its Board of Directors for terms that commenced January 1, 2012.

The new 2012 Chairman of the Board, Steve Turner, has worked at the Daily News-Record for 20 years, the last five as advertising director. A native of Harrisonburg, he graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1983. Steve currently resides in the city with his wife, Debbie Vanderwarker Turner and their dog, Abby.

The new board members include Cory Davies of RMH Foundations, John Riner of LD&B Insurance and Joel Shank of Dynamic Aviation.

Cory Davies has worked as a Development Officer in the Rockingham Memorial Hospital Foundation for four years. He earned a M.A. in Public Communication from the American University in Washington, D.C. and graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Speech Communication from the University of Utah. Cory grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah and now resides in Harrisonburg with his wife and two beautiful children.

John Riner has more than ten years’ experience in the insurance industry. He joined LD&B in February 2010 and is Property & Casualty and Life & Heath licensed but focuses primarily on the P&C side of the business, doing both Personal and Commercial insurances. Born and raised in Harrisonburg, he graduated from Bridgewater College with a major in Business Administration. John currently resides in Harrisonburg with his wife, Jennifer and their three children, Adeline, Henry and Lucy.

Joel Shank is an HR Manager at Dynamic Aviation. He has been with the company for six years in various HR related capacities. Joel grew up in Harrisonburg and graduated from Eastern Mennonite University with a degree in Business Administration. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and one-year-old son.

The three new members join a 27-member board that is the governing body of the Chamber of Commerce. They were selected by the Chamber’s membership at the recent Annual Banquet & Awards Ceremony.

A seven-member Executive Committee has also been appointed for the 2012 year. The 2012 officers serving on the Executive Committee are:

  • Hobey Bauhan, Virginia Poultry Federation – Chair-Elect
  • Josh Hale, Farmers & Merchants Bank – Past Chair
  • Jill McGlaughlin, Classic Kitchens & Bath – Vice Chair of Member Services
  • Dr. James Shaeffer, James Madison University – Vice Chair of Programs
  • Greg Campbell, Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport – Vice Chair of Community Relations
  • Stacy Shiflet, Blauch Brothers – Vice Chair of Finance
