A 1907 murder trial in Nelson County is the setting of a new play by Faber playwright Peter Coy that will open at the Hamner Theater in Nellysford on May 23.
A Shadow of Honor is inspired by the true events of the William Loving murder trial. Waynesboro resident Jonas Collins will portray William Ruffin, whose character is based on William Loving. A Shadow of Honor tells the story of 1907 through the tale of a young couple who move into the house occupied by Ruffin a century earlier.
Coy has written 25 full-length plays and adaptations, including an adaptation of Earl Hamner’s The Homecoming that was the opening production at the Hamner Theater in 2005.
A Shadow of Honor will play at the Hamner Theater Wednesdays through Sundays through June 1.
A free preview is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m.
