uvaswords.jpgAnother day, another come-from-behind victory for the Cardiac Cavs.|
A 19-yard Chris Gould field goal gave Virginia a one-point lead late, and the UVa. defense stiffened after Connecticut drove inside Wahoo territory in the final two minutes to preserve a 17-16 victory on Saturday in Scott Stadium.

It was the second fourth-quarter game-winning field goal in as many weeks for Gould – and the second game-clinching fourth-quarter drive for Sewell in as many weeks as well.

And just as last week in Virginia’s 23-21 win at Middle Tennessee, Sewell struggled up to the point of becoming the hero – finishing with just 149 yards passing (14-for-24, one touchdown, two interceptions), though he did post a game-high 66 yards on the ground on 16 carries.

Former defensive back Chris Gorham had a career game on the other side of the ball – hauling in three catches for 76 yards, including two catches on two Virginia scoring drives that put UVa. in scoring position.

Andrew Pearman, starting for an injured Cedric Peerman, ran for 43 yards on 17 carries.

Keith Payne ran for 42 yards and a touchdown.

Virginia (6-1, 3-0 ACC) had 335 yards of total offense.

Connecticut (5-1, 1-0 ACC) got 176 yards passing and a touchdown from quarterback Jared Lorenzen.
