Word on Todd Gilbert is that the former U.S. Attorney is now an assistant Commonwealth’s attorney in Page County.
Todd Gilbert: a great example of MAGA eating its own.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to do meaningful prosecution work in a county that I love and care deeply about,” said Gilbert, who was run off from the U.S. Attorney job that he held for five weeks because he proved to be insufficiently loyal to the Trumpers, poor guy.
At issue there: Gilbert, who had yet to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate, was told that the White House wanted him to fire somebody in his office who had worked under the Biden administration and replace that person with Robert Tracci, the runner-up for the Western District appointment.
Tracci is also a former one-term Albemarle County Commonwealth’s Attorney who lost his re-election bid in 2019, then got himself another paid government job with Rusty McGuire, the Commonwealth’s attorney in Louisa County and brother of Trump-endorsed MAGA Congressman John McGuire, before moving on up to a job with the Office of Attorney General under MAGA Republican Jason Miyares.
Gilbert initially resisted hiring Tracci, before relenting – but with the initial resistance to the orders from on high, the die had been cast.
“Page County has long been my second home, and I look forward to working with our law enforcement partners to ensure a community that is safe and prosperous,” Gilbert said.
Better be careful with that “second home” talk – the Trumpers are selectively prosecuting people on their various sh*t lists over the paperwork on second homes.
Gilbert, a 1993 UVA alum, is the former House Majority Leader who resigned his House of Delegates seat a couple of months ago to take over as U.S. Attorney in the Western District of Virginia.
The idea that Todd Gilbert is an insufficiently loyal Trumper is laughable, but then, the leopards eating faces don’t discriminate.
“We are extremely gratified to have an attorney of Mr. Gilbert’s caliber and experience joining our mission of making Page County a safer place to live, work, visit and raise a family. Todd is obviously no stranger to the people of Page County and will start making a positive impact right away,” said Armanda Clymer, the elected Commonwealth’s attorney in Page County, in a release from the office that went out on Wednesday to announce the addition of Gilbert to the staff.
