A 47-year-old man is dead after his motorcycle struck a truck at the intersection of Wards and Gladys roads in Campbell County.

The driver of the motorcycle, John T. Payne II, 47, of Hurt, died at the scene.  Payne was wearing a helmet.

The accident occurred Jan. 29 at 6:25 p.m.

Payne’s Kawasaki ZX10 was heading southbound on Wards Road when it was unable to avoid a Ram 5500 truck, driven by Whitney L. Creasy, 24, of Chatham.

The Ram had pulled out from a parking lot and was attempting to get to the northbound lanes, according to Virginia State Police.

The motorcycle stuck the Ram on driver’s side of the vehicle.

Creasy was not injured.

Charges are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.
