Virginia residents should be prepared to bundle up as colder temperatures are on the way, and an approaching storm could bring snow late next week.
“No doubt a change in the weather is coming,” said Thomas Kines, a senior meteorologist with AccuWeather. “The rain later tonight and early tomorrow will be followed by an extended period of colder weather.”
Typically, at this time of year, the Valley should have high temperatures close to 50 and nighttime lows in the upper 20s.
“No doubt, we have been spoiled for most of this month as temperatures have averaged almost six degrees above normal,” said Kines. “There will be many days over the next 10 with high temperatures in the 30s and 40s and nighttime lows well down into the 20s.”
Brrrr.
Kines doesn’t think Virginians need to worry about any significant precipitation for awhile, but as is the case with weather, timing is everything.
“There is concern about a storm approaching from the south between December 6 and 12,” Kines said. “If this storm occurred during the early part of that period, we might have to deal with snow, but odds will favor rain if it occurs later in that time frame.”
While December will start with colder weather, the second half of December should feature more mild days, Kines said.
