Bucknell rallies past #10 UVA wrestling, 20-16

uva wrestlingThe 10th-ranked UVA wrestling team dropped a 20-16 decision at Bucknell Saturday (Dec. 20) at Davis Gym. The Cavaliers (5-2) were leading 16-7 with four bouts remaining, but the Bison (1-1) captured all four weight classes to pull off the comeback victory.

UVa got wins at 133 and 141, respectively, from No. 10 George DiCamillo (R-So., Highland Heights, Ohio) and No. 13 Joe Spisak (R-Sr., Boiling Springs, Pa.) before seventh-ranked Gus Sako (R-Sr., Cleveland, Ohio) pinned Victor Lopez at 1:23 of the first period to give the Cavaliers a 12-4 lead.

At 165, second-ranked Nick Sulzer picked up a major decision over Rob Schlitt, 18-6. It was Sulzer’s 101st career victory, which moves him into a tie for eighth in program history.

The Bison picked up three straight wins to tie the match at 16 heading into the final bout, where Bucknell’s No. 19 Joe Stolfi earned a major decision over Collin Campbell, 11-1, to clinch the victory.

After the holiday break, the Cavaliers return to competition Jan. 1-2 at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn. UVa next will compete in dual action Jan. 9-10 when it heads to Hampton, Va., for the Virginia Duals.
