In the continuing effort to revitalize Downtown Waynesboro, the City of Waynesboro will host a series of public meetings the week of September 23rd to 26th as part of a Brownfield Charrette. The Brownfield Charrette is a design process led by a team of consultants. The Charrette’s focus will be on solutions that create new economic development and generate investment in Downtown. The final product of the Charrette will be a Revitalization Plan. This plan will be strategic, pragamatic, and market-based with a vision that will guide future public and private investments.
Generating lots of public participation is critical to the Revitalization Plan’s success and viability. This plan needs to: (A) reflect our citizen’s needs and opinions, (B) be based upon the input from the people who are involved in the City’s on-going cultural, arts, historical and recreation resources so that we can identify and leverage these resources; and, (C) the plan needs broad community support because, in order for the plan to be successful, our citizens will have to play an active role in its implemention.
There will be 3 major public meetings:
• Community Assets – What are our Arts and Cultural, Historical and Recreational, Resources? on Tuesday, September 23rd at 5:00 pm at the Gateway Theater on Main Street.
• A Public Visioning Workshop on Tuesday, September 24th at 6:30 pm in the High School Cafeteria
• A Presentation of the Revitalization Plan on Thursday, September 26th at 7:00 pm at the Gateway Theater on Main Street.
On Tuesday, September 24th in the City Council Chambers in the Yancey Building, there will also be 3 smaller Topic Sessions open to the public. These will focus on:
o Stormwater, Environmental Resources & Utility Infrastructure @ 9:00 am
o Multi-Modal Transportation @ 12:30 pm
