Bridgewater College VP joins United Way Board of Directors

bridgewater collegeDr. Maureen Silva, vice president for institutional advancement at Bridgewater College, has been named to the board of directors of the United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.

Silva, who has nearly 30 years’ experience in development and campaign leadership in higher education, serves as chief development officer at Bridgewater and is a member of the President’s Cabinet. In fiscal year 2017-18, Silva, the institutional advancement team and Bridgewater College President David W. Bushman set a new fundraising record for the college, raising $13.52 million.

Prior to coming to Bridgewater College in 2014, Silva was vice president for advancement at St. Mary’s College of Maryland in St. Mary’s City, Md., for four years. Throughout her career in higher education, Silva has held fundraising positions at the University of Denver in Denver, the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo., and Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.

United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County celebrates 61 years of engaging businesses to help serve the needs of the community. In fiscal year 2017-18, the nonprofit invested $571,000 in direct service programming to further its mission of uniting the community and empowering people in need.

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to more than 1,900 undergraduate students.
