Virginia starting shortstop Branden Cogswell (So., Ballston Lake, N.Y.) will miss the next two weeks because of a fractured finger. Cogswell broke the middle finger on his right hand (throwing hand) last Saturday in practice and underwent surgery to repair the break.
He will be reevaluated in two weeks prior to the ACC tournament.
Cogswell has started all 47 games for the Cavaliers, leading off the batting order in each contest. He is second on the team with a .346 batting average and ranks among the ACC leaders in several offensive categories. He recently was named to the watch list for the 2013 Wallace Award, which is presented to the nation’s top shortstop.
Virginia (39-8, 17-7 ACC) returns to the field at 6 p.m. this evening against Duke in the start of a three-game series at Davenport Field. UVa plays host to VCU on Tuesday (May 14) before wrapping up the regular season May 16-18 at top-ranked North Carolina.
