WTA’s Gateway is stacking up blues headliners from across the USA.  In September, it was Will Kimbrough, and in November it will be Tom Principato. Principato’s concert is scheduled for Saturday, November 9 at 8:00pm.  “We are beholden to Terry Short, producer of the Virginia Chili Blues, for convincing Principato to return to Waynesboro,” said Clair Myers, Executive Director of the Wayne Theatre Alliance.  “He was the headliner two years ago at the Chili Blues Festival. He is a great talent.”

Tom Principato has spent the last 40+ years as a guitarist and singer based in his hometown of Washington, D.C. In the 1970’s, Tom was leader of the legendary band Powerhouse, an East Coast phenomenon who released an album “Night Life” to critical acclaim.  In 1984, Tom began a solo career, notably recording a live album with the late Washington guitar legend Danny Gatton titled “Blazing Telecasters”. The album was considered by The National Academy of Recorded Arts and Sciences (NARAS) for a Grammy Nomination. He has toured extensively in the U.S., Canada, and Europe including Norway, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Austria, France, Slovenia, Finland, Italy, Sardegna, Corsica, Spain, Portugal, Majorca, Menorca, St. Croix, and even Greece and Turkey!

Tom has won a total of 22 “WAMMY” Awards from the Washington Area Music Association. The Tom Principato Band was also voted “Blues Act Of The Year”-1997 and “Blues Act Of The Month” for Oct. 1997 by the listeners of “Talkin’ Blues Radio” Koln, Germany and Gitarre & Bass Magazine.

The Principato performance will be at WTA’s Gateway voted “The Valley’s Favorite Place for Live Music” by readers of theNews Virginian and Virginia Living.  It is also a favorite space for performers with its intimate feel and excellent acoustics.  “We think Tom will feel at home when he comes in November.”
