Blue Ridge Parkway: North Carolina man dies two weeks after motorcycle accident

A North Carolina man has died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on the Blue Ridge Parkway nearly two weeks ago.

National Park Service officials report that Edward Zigata, 60, of Shallotte, N.C., died June 14.

Zigata was ejected from his motorcycle after colliding with a deer on June 1 at 11:59 a.m. near Milepost 162 near Rakes Mill Pond in Woolwine, Va.

He was transported by helicopter to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

National Park Service law enforcement rangers, along with Floyd County Fire and EMS, responded to the scene.

No additional details are available at this time.
