beverley street studio schoolBeverley Street Studio School Gallery will host a three dimensional exhibition by Harrisonburg-based artist Greg Stewart. Digital prints will also be included in this installation entitled, Land Missive. Exhibit runs from Nov. 30 to Jan. 20, 2019.

The exhibit’s opening reception will be held on Friday, Nove. 30th from 5:30-7:30 pm at the School’s Gallery at 22 West Beverley Street, Downtown Staunton.

Stewart will give a brief talk about his work at 6:00 pm. Evening reception and talk are free and open to the public.

Land Missive is a combination of two projects that consider aspects and concerns of our current land management practices. The first project that is featured will be a suit that is designed to generate static charge, in order to activate a mechanism that attracts dust and other toxins from the air along the shore of the Great Salt Lake. The second project is a catalog that houses a number of stencils that spell out a cautionary tale about a world that is precariously balanced. These combined projects represent a larger effort to characterize a disappearing world and human’s influence on our environment.

Stewart has a Master of Fine Arts from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the State University of New York at Brockport. He is a Professor of Art at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, where he has been teaching sculpture and three dimensional design classes since 2002. Greg has also exhibited extensively on the East Coast and in California.
