A Bedford is in custody on charges for unlawful filming following an investigation that began with a review of an upskirting incident reported at a Target store in Leesburg in June.

Tate E. Dietrich, 36, of Bedford, faces four counts of unlawful filming in the Leesburg incident, stemming from a report lodged with Leesburg Police on June 28.

Detectives identified four victims connected to that unlawful filming incident, and on Aug. 11, multiple agencies, including the Leesburg Police Department, executed a search warrant at Dietrich’s residence in Bedford.

Detectives then determined that Dietrich had committed similar acts at multiple stores in Bedford, Roanoke County and Leesburg.

During the operation, Dietrich was arrested by Bedford Police in connection with incidents that occurred within their jurisdiction.

Leesburg Police obtained four warrants on Thursday charging Dietrich with unlawful filming in Leesburg.

Dietrich is currently being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Lynchburg.

This case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Leesburg Police Department at 703-771-4500 or [email protected].

Anonymous tips may be submitted by calling 703-443-TIPS (8477).
