Bedford County | Pedestrian dead after being struck on Lynchburg Turnpike

A 40-year-old woman is dead after she was struck by a vehicle while walking on West Lynchburg Turnpike in Bedford County.

The pedestrian, Stacee Lee LaClair, of Bedford, died at the scene.

Virginia State Police is investigating the fatal crash that occurred just after 7 a.m., west of Wheatland Road.

According to VSP, the pedestrian was walking in the road as the driver of a GMC Yukon was traveling westbound in the right lane and merged into the left lane to avoid LaClair. The pedestrian reportedly also moved into the left lane and was struck by the Yukon.

The driver’s name has not been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
