BC seniors recognized for work in health, human services

Eight Bridgewater College seniors were presented awards from the Department of Health and Human Sciences during the annual awards convocation on May 1.

Brittany Anderson received the Most Valuable Athletic Training Student Award. The award is voted on by her peers for the characteristics of leadership, integrity, dedication, dependability and personality. Anderson, an athletic training major, is the daughter of Mel and Margaret Anderson of Glen Allen, Va.

Thomas “T.J.” Lilley was presented the Athletic Training Performance Award. The recipient is selected by the faculty for academic excellence, professionalism and skills critical to the profession of athletic training. Lilley, an athletic training major with a minor in coaching, is the son of the Rev. Rodney and Kathaleen Lilley of Lebanon, Pa.

Anderson and Lilley each received a plaque.

Brittany Ginaven received the Major of the Year award in health and exercise and Megan A. Lastner was presented the Major of the Year award in health and physical education. Ginaven is the daughter of Mike and Lynn Ginaven of Galloway, Ohio. Lastner is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Lastner of Nottingham, Md.

The Major of the Year awards are based on academic skills, career-related experiences and being a strong, positive role model. Ginaven and Lastner each received a plaque.

Kelly Remnant, an allied health science major, received the Excellence in Academics award presented to the student who embraces learning, demonstrates academic excellence and engages in the learning process in the classroom and beyond. She is the daughter of Don and Gladys Remnant of Bridgewater, Va.

Bethany Hansberger, an athletic training and psychology double major, was presented the Excellence in Leadership and Service award for demonstrating excellence in leadership, character and service. Hansberger is the daughter of Neil and Luanna Hansberger of Sterling, Va.

Remnant and Hansberger each received a plaque and a gift certificate to the college’s bookstore.

Brian Barnett was presented the Outstanding Senior Nutrition and Wellness Award and Laura Butcher received the Outstanding Senior Family and Consumer Sciences Award. Each winner received a certificate and a cash prize.

The awards are based on grade point average, passion for the field, service to the department and community, active membership in professional organizations and promise as a professional in the future.

Barnett, a health and exercise science and nutrition and wellness double major, is the son of David and Sue Barnett of Winchester, Va.

Butcher, a family and consumer sciences major, is the daughter of the Rev. Jeff and Jan Butcher of Stephens City, Va.
