Randolph College erased a double-digit deficit in the final eight minutes Saturday afternoon to defeat Bridgewater College, 63-60, in ODAC action at Nininger Hall.

Bridgewater led by nine points at the break, 35-26, and after a sluggish opening five minutes in the second half, the Eagles led by 10 points, 37-27.

The Eagles then hit the WildCats with an 8-2 spurt to take their biggest lead of the game, 45-29. Three-pointers by Dominic Trawick and Kordero Thompson and a layup by Rick Maloney sparked BC to the 16-point lead.

The Eagles still led 51-41 with 7:29 left to play, but a three-pointer by Caleb Pearson tied the score at 57-57 with 2:17 left to play, and a layup by Colton Hunt following a BC turnover gave the Wildcats their first lead of the second half.

A jumper by D.J. Billups tied the score at 59-59, but a layup by Hunt put the WildCats on top to stay, 61-60.

The Eagles had a chance to tie with :36 left, but Jake Johnson was able to hit just 1-of-2 free throws, leaving BC down by one 61-60.

Bridgewater had one final opportunity to send the game to overtime, but Trawick’s 3-pointer at the buzzer bounced off the rim.

“We had too many empty possession to start the second half when we had a great opportunity to build our lead,” Bridgewater head coach Don Burgess said. “And that continued as throughout the half we had too many empty possessions – trips where we didn’t score or didn’t get to the foul line.”

Bridgewater put four players in double figures, with Segar Jordan and Billups leading the way with 11 points each. Trawick and Johnson scored 10 points apiece.

Bridgewater is now 3-3 overall while Randolph improves to 6-1. Both teams are now 1-1 in the ODAC.
