Baltimore salvages finale of series with White Sox, wins 9-1

lgo_mlb_baltimore_oriolesMiguel Gonzalez gave Baltimore a solid start, Jonathan Schoop homered, Steve Pearce had three hits, and the O’s cruised past the Chicago White Sox, 9-1, on Sunday.

Gonzalez (7-5, 3.87 ERA) gave up a run on four hits in six innings of work, striking out three and walking one.

He had a lead from the opening inning. Adam Jones put the Orioles on the board in the top of the first with an RBI double. Schoop hit a solo homer in the second, his fourth of the season, to make it 2-0 Baltimore.

It would stay that way into the sixth, when Caleb Joseph hit a two-out, two-run double to right-center that made it 4-0 O’s.

After a Melky Cabrera RBI double in the bottom of the sixth got one of those runs back, the Orioles blew the game open with a four-run seventh, getting RBI singles from Pearce and Chris Davis and RBI groundouts from Schoop and Joseph to make it 8-1 Baltimore.

A Davis RBI sacrifice fly in the eighth added more insurance.

The win moves Baltimore (43-39) to a game back of the New York Yankees in the American League East.

The O’s go out on the road tomorrow for the first game of a three-game set with the Minnesota Twins.
