Augusta Health Sleep Center receives national accreditation

Augusta Health Sleep Center recently received program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. The Sleep Center, located on the Augusta Health campus, is directed by Evan Wenger, M.D. To receive its five-year accreditation, Augusta Health’s Sleep Center met or exceeded all standards for professional healthcare as designated by the AASM.

“Sleep disorders can significantly impact health and the quality of life. We have a dedicated medical team that is committed to providing quality sleep medicine care to our community, and we appreciate being recognized for those efforts,” said Dr. Wenger.

The accreditation process involved detailed inspection of the Sleep Center’s facility and staff, including an evaluation of testing procedures, patient contacts and physician training. Additionally, the Sleep Center was required to have clearly stated goals and plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in its community.

“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates the Augusta Health Sleep Center on fulfilling the high standards required for receiving accreditation as a sleep disorders center,” said Dr. Nancy Collop, AASM president. “The Augusta Health Sleep Center is a significant resource to the local medical community and will provide academic and scientific value in addition to the highest quality care for patients suffering from sleep disorders.”

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine is a professional medical society for clinicians, researchers and other healthcare providers in the field of sleep medicine. It currently accredits more than 2200 sleep medicine centers and laboratories across the country. As the national accrediting body for sleep disorders centers and labs, the AASM is dedicated to setting standards and promoting excellence in sleep medicine healthcare, education and research.

Augusta Health is an independent, nonprofit community hospital with a mission to promote the health and well-being of our community through access to excellent care.
