Augusta County teen dead in high-speed, head-on collision in Staunton

An Augusta County teen is dead from injuries sustained in a head-on collision on the 400 block of Richmond Avenue in Staunton late Tuesday night.

Nathan E. Langgle, 19, of Craigsville, was pronounced dead at 11:25 p.m., roughly 40 minutes after Staunton Police responded to the scene of the accident.

Langgle was driving a 2016 Toyota Camry westbound on Richmond Avenue at a high rate of speed, according to police, when he crossed the center line, striking a 2007 Honda Element, driven by Dean A. Smith, 21, of Harrisonburgm head-on in the eastbound lanes.

Smith was airlifted to the University of Virginia Medical Center with serious injuries.

No additional injuries were reported, and neither vehicle contained any passengers.

The investigation into the crash continues.
