Deputies with the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office responded to the KOA Campground in Verona at 2:23 a.m. Thursday for a burglary alarm.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the business had been burglarized, and an ATM machine had been attacked and removed from the business.
The suspect was dressed in a jumpsuit, and wore gloves, a mask, and hardhat. The offender entered the building after smashing the front door with a sledge hammer. The male then drug the ATM machine out the business, and loaded it onto a dolly. The suspect then loaded the ATM into a white passenger van and fled.
The van utilized in the burglary was discovered at 3:31 a.m. burning in the 700 block of Jericho Road in Fishersville.
It was soon revealed that the van used in the burglary had been stolen from a nearby Fishersville business, used in the burglary in Verona, and then ultimately destroyed by an intentionally set fire, near where it had been originally stolen.
