Augusta County: Route 608 turn lane construction begins May 1

Chris Graham

Motorists can expect traffic pattern changes when the Route 608 (Long Meadow Road) project in Augusta County moves to a new phase on Wednesday, May 1. The project will provide a dedicated right-turn lane for Route 608 motorists turning onto Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) at Fishersville. All work is weather permitting.

Route 608 is currently closed between Route 250 and Route 641 (Fishersville Road) as utility crews move an underground natural gas line. The affected portion of Route 608 is scheduled to temporarily reopen on Friday, April 26. The same road will then be closed for about a month starting May 1 while contractors construct the right turn lane.

Motorists will have access to homes and businesses on either side of the work zone. Signs will guide through traffic on the following detours:

  • Southbound traffic will follow Route 641 west, Route 1319 south and then Route 250 east to return to Route 608.
  • Northbound traffic will follow Route 250 west, Route 1319 north and then Route 641 east to return to Route 608.

As an alternate route, motorists can also use Route 1360 (Westminster Drive) between Route 608 and Route 250. This route is currently serving as the detour during utility relocation. A map showing the Route 608 closure, detour and alternate route is here.
