Friends have started an online fundraiser to help an Augusta County couple that that lost its mobile home in a Dec. 11 fire in Crimora.

“At this point, I feel like I am homeless,” said Russell H. Jackson, whose mobile home, located at 113 Jenni Lynn Circle, in the Country Estates mobile home community, suffered damage in the fire.

Jackson, who is disabled, was home at the time of the fire, but was removed from the home by family members, according to a report in the News Leader.

The local chapter of the American Red Cross was able to help the Jackson family by providing funds for a motel room, but finding a permanent situation is hard given Jackson’s condition.

“It takes time to find a place to live, and you need money for that, and with me being bed-ridden, it’s hard, and if I can be accepted, I have to be transported to places, and I can’t afford that,” Jackson said.

The online fundraiser was started by Gloria Berry, Jackson’s sister.
