An Augusta County man is dead after a crash Wednesday afternoon on Route 39 in Bath County.

Chase Benten Killingsworth, 39, of Craigsville, died at the scene.

According to Virginia State Police, the single-vehicle crash occurred at 2:40 p.m., three-tenths of a mile east of Route 643.

Killingsworth’s Ford F-250 truck was traveling east when he ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, crossed the roadway and struck a tree.

Killingsworth was not wearing his seatbelt, according to VSP.

Speed was a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
