An Augusta County man was arrested Tuesday and charged with rape and forcible sodomy.

Kevin Wayne Hitt, 41, of Mount Sidney, is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.

According to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, they received a call on Jan. 24 about an alleged rape at a home in Augusta County.

The victim suffered bruising during the incident, according to the ACSO.

Online court records show the offenses took place between Jan. 19 and Jan. 21.

Hitt has been charged with two counts of rape and seven counts of forcible sodomy.

Sheriff Donald Smith said the office would not be releasing additional information “to protect the identity of the victim.”

Online court records show Hitt failed to register as a sex offender in 2021.

Hitt appeared in court at 11:30 a.m. today for a bond hearing. He has been assigned a public defender.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 22 in Augusta County Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court.
