A brief foot chase took place on Sunday morning in the area of Midvale Drive in Verona, after a suspect fled from police.
Joseph Steven Brown, 48, of Verona, allegedly fled on foot at approximately 9:47 a.m. He was suspected of stealing a set of rims for a 1947 Ford, according to police.
Police established a perimeter, and there was briefly a large law enforcement presence in the area as officers attempted to locate him.
Brown was later located on an adjacent property, where he was found hiding under a shed, according to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.
The stolen rims were recovered and returned to the victim.
Brown was wanted or charged with:
- 19.2-306 – Felony probation violation (Staunton Circuit Court)
- 19.2-130.1 – Felony probation violation (Augusta Circuit Court)
- 18.2-95 – Grand larceny of a firearm (felony)
- 18.2-308.2 – Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (felony)
- § 18.2-95 / 46.2-390 – Grand larceny of vehicle parts valued at $1,000 or more (felony)
Brown was taken into custody and is being held without bond at the Middle River Regional Jail.
