Augusta County Library hosts Artist Trading Card Workshop

Chris Graham

On Saturday, February 1 at 2 p.m. the Augusta County Library will host an Artist Trading Card Workshop. Participants in this free workshop will create and trade miniature works of art under the guidance of local artist Ron Hiserman. No previous experience with art is required.

ac-libraryArtist trading cards are about the size of baseball cards. Cards can be created using just about anything, including watercolors, acrylic paints, pencils, markers, collage, fibers and found objects.  The only rule is a standard size of 2.5 x 3.5 inches which allows collectors to display and store the miniature works of art in archival album sleeves.

Adult services librarian Sarah Skrobis says, “This workshop is a wonderful way for adults to explore their creative side. Not only is this art that anyone can make, but it is also an affordable way to start an personal art collection.”

Artist Trading Cards originated with an art exhibition in Switzerland in 1996 and gradually spread around the world. This small art was initially swapped between artists in the manner of business cards. Today, artists and collectors meet across the country to exchange cards for art collections.

There is no charge for the workshop which is sponsored by the Friends of the Augusta County Library. However, pre-registration is encouraged. The library is located at 1759 Jefferson Hwy.  in Fishersville. For additional information or to register for the workshop, contact 540-885-3961 or [email protected].
