Augusta County: Crews working fire at Big Levels; residents will see smoke for several days

The George Washington and Jefferson National Forests’ Glenwood and Pedlar Ranger District is actively working a fire within the Saint Mary’s Wilderness in Augusta County.

The Big Levels Fire is located north of the Coal Road (FSR# 42). The fire is on National Forest System lands in steep, rocky terrain.

Residents will see smoke for the next several days as firefighters work to contain the fire.

The following roads and trails are closed for public safety:

  • Cellar Mountain Trail (#587)
  • Cold Springs Trail (#524)
  • Bald Mountain Spur Road (FSR#62A)
