An Ashland man was crushed between two vehicles after his F-350 pickup rolled back into a flatbed tractor trailer on the shoulder of Route 207.

Virginia State Police responded to the accident on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the three-mile marker in Caroline County.

William Bryon Gilman, 83, was driving the duelly F-350 truck and was being followed by a flatbed tractor trailer that was hauling construction equipment.

Gilman was the owner of Gilman Logging Company, according to his obituary.

The driver of the flatbed noticed the door of the equipment had opened, so both vehicles pulled to the shoulder to fix it.

Gilman was standing between both vehicles when the F-350 rolled backwards, crushing him between them, VSP reports.

Gilman was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

The accident remains under investigation.
