Arlington high school student charged after gun, ammo found in backpack

An Arlington high school student has been charged after a firearm and ammunition was located in his backpack on school grounds.

The 17-year-old student at Arlington Community High School student is being held in a juvenile detention center, according to Arlington County Police.

Police responded at noon on Monday to the high school after a school security guard located a loaded firearm with an extended magazine and suspected marijuana inside a student’s backpack.

Responding officers took the student into custody and took possession of the firearm and narcotics.

The school was placed on lockdown during the investigation.
