Amherst County: 30-year-old man dead after motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon

A 30-year-old man is dead after a motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon in Amherst County.

Dakota B. Fitzgerald, of Madison Heights, died at the scene.

The fatal single-vehicle crash occurred at 12:40 p.m. on Elon Road, according to Virginia State Police.

Fitzgerald was traveling westbound on a Harley Davidson motorcycle, when he lost control attempting to pass another vehicle and fell off the bike. The accident occurred approximately one quarter of a mile east of Cloudcroft Drive.

Fitzgerald was wearing a helmet.

The crash remains under investigation.
