A 16-year-old boy died on Saturday after he was ejected in a single-vehicle accident in Amherst County. The juvenile was a passenger in 2024 Kia Forte that crashed at 1:45 p.m. on Possum Island Road.

The driver, Lucas S. Fretwell, 34, of Madison Heights, suffered minor injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

According to Virginia State Police, the vehicle was heading southbound toward the intersection with Millennium Way when Fretwell lost control, went off the right side of the road, struck a mailbox and then a utility pole. The Forte then overturned.
