Albemarle County Planning Commission to hold public hearing on capital improvements

albemarle countyThe Albemarle County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Tuesday at 6 pm in Lane Auditorium at the County Office Building on McIntire Road, to take comments on potential amendments to the County’s adopted Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).

In a letter to the Board of Supervisors dated May 12, 2016, the School Board requested that the Board of Supervisors amend the FY 2017-2021 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) in order to add capital improvement projects for the County school division, including school addition, modernization and security projects, renovations, and school capacity planning. These proposed additions to the CIP could potentially be funded through a bond referendum. If the Board goes forward with a referendum, County residents would have the opportunity to vote for the funding method for the projects during the November 8, 2016 election.

In keeping with standard procedures for amending the CIP, the Board directed the Planning Commission and the CIP Oversight Committee to review the School Board’s request to add projects and to provide feedback to the Board prior to June 1st. The Board of Supervisors will consider amending the FY2017-2021 CIP and proceeding with a November 2016 referendum at its scheduled June 1st meeting.

A link to the Planning Commission agenda for May 24 including the staff report for the public hearing is posted at albemarle.org/upload/images/Forms_Center/Departments/Community_Development/Forms/PC_Agendas/2016/PC_2016_05_24_Agenda.pdf
