Albemarle County: Pedestrian struck on Monacan Trail Road dies due to injuries

The pedestrian struck on Sunday evening on Monacan Trail Road in Albemarle County has died, according to an update from the Albemarle County Police Department.

Michael D. Venezian, 40, of Albemarle County, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation. No further details have been released.

 

A pedestrian received life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a vehicle on Monacan Trail Road in Albemarle County on Sunday.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was transported to UVA Health and is in critical condition.

Officers believe the victim was walking southbound on Monacan Trail Road, approximately half a mile from the interstate, when he was struck. Albemarle County police and fire departments responded to reports of a man on the shoulder of the roadway at approximately 5:30 p.m.

The driver fled the scene, according to police.

Evidence at the scene suggests that the fleeing vehicle may have damage to the front end.

No other description of the suspect vehicle is currently available.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
