Albemarle County: One person injured in residential structure fire in Afton

One person suffered minor injuries evacuating from a structure fire in the 2600 block of Crystal Spring Lane in Afton Tuesday night.

The fire was reported at 8:43 p.m., according to a report from Albemarle County Fire Rescue.

The first fire suppression apparatus arrived on scene at approximately 8:58 p.m. to discover a chimney fire causing smoke and fire to spread into the residence. The building was occupied by two residents at the time of the fire. Both were able to self-evacuate.

One occupant was evaluated at the scene for minor injuries.

The displaced residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Albemarle County Fire Marshal’s Office.
