One horse died and four ponies were rescued from an accidental barn fire tonight in Albemarle County.
Albemarle County Fire Rescue responded to reports of a fire on Louisa Road in Gordonsville at 8:23 p.m. tonight.
The crew arrived to discover a barn on the property fully engulfed. The fire was contained at 9:11 p.m. The structure is a total loss.
Bystanders were able to rescue the four ponies prior to fire crews’ arrival on scene. The horse was later located decease.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. However, the initial cause does not appear suspicious in nature.
The Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Department also provided assistance during the incident.
